You have done very well. If that was my tractor, I'd be very tempted to disassemble everything since some cobbler seemed to get into everywhere. You really don't have that many componentents left to explore and fix. I hope that the tractor gives you many years of pleasure after all the TLC you have given it. Good Luck, Rick

Here are a few pictures after I cleaned the differential housing and the axle bearings.

Also a few pictures of my train wreck of a garage and my home made A frame to hoist

the engine when I split the tractor.

Ahh yes, the "Little Giant" ladders really are useful, are they not?

"Well . . . We're waiting . . ." <---- (Read with Ted Knight voice from Caddyshack)

heh heh,  Well I am waiting also. Working on getting Parts and gaskets.

Doggone thing is just sitting in the garage mocking me. Its going to take

3 weeks for all of the gaskets to get here.  I was hoping to use it to push

a large pile of brush and leaves to the back of my property and

also a large pile of limbs and brush  at the inlaws leftover from the storm Sandy.

I am going to use my craftsman GT6000 to do the jobs now. I

removed the snowblower attachment yesterday and today I started

sand blasting the dozer blade for the GT so I can paint it and install

it. Here is a picture from a few years ago.

Want to use my Cat D9H?

Darn right I do, and you're so close to me here in NJ

I'll be right over and I can just drive it home. No need to

load it on a trailer!   Ha Ha And heh heh !

While  I'm there can we go for a ride in a C130?

You ought to get some kind of award for your persistence on this project. When your done with this tractor it should be good for another 20 years.

I remain in awe of your mechanical skills.  There is something about looking over the shoulder of an experienced machinist who is concerned about doing the job correctly, not just rushing through for a paycheck, or to get another unit on the road.  Positively inspiring!

So the tractor is setting in the garage mocking me while I'm waiting
for gaskets. I talked to Leonard at Sheaffers Tractor parts and he
told me he is waiting for the axle housing gaskets to come in
and he would been mailing all of the gaskets and parts I've ordered.
I have been working on this thing since February. This thing
has had one problem after another. This has been the most
expensive free tractor I have ever been given. So while
I have been waiting for parts I decided to remove the radiator
and sand blast the radiator housing and shroud. I also
scraped the rust and loose paint off of the radiator brackets.
I painted the housing, shroud  and radiator. With the radiator
removed I was able to clean and prime the front part of the
tractor frame. I spent about 3 hours tonight scraping off the
old gaskets from the differential housing. Boy those old gaskets
on the housing are really bonded on there. It takes a lot of
time to scrape old gaskets off being careful not to
gouge the aluminum housing. here are a few pictures.

Here are a few more pictures. I have almost everything

cleaned and all of the old gaskets scraped off. I found some

old epoxy on the inside of the clutch housing and because

of its location I think someone tried to fix the broken

front transmission cover with the epoxy. That didn't work

so the cover was welded and re machined to fit back

on the transmission.
