[Texas Deere and Horse]

My 2 girls have been working with their rabbits for 6 weeks again this year and tomorrow is the big day. We will be a the fairgrounds at 7AM to get weighed in. Hopefully they will show well again this year. Briley and Bailey has worked very hard this year tending to the rabbits and have got 4 really nice pens to show, 2 a piece.

The girls spend up to 2 hrs everyday working with the rabbits.

 

No matter how they do tomorrow, I will and am VERY PROUD of both of my girls.

The girls will do great!  By working with the rabbits that much there is a bond of trust that will show for the judges. My 2 girls have also shown rabbits in 4H. It is a good program for everyone involved.  Have fun tomorrow.

Wow, showing in Jan. We don't show until last week of July. I only wished my kids worked with their rabbits likes that. I'm happy if they actually get fed everyday. Then they wonder why they don't win anything.

 

Those look like white New Zealands? What type of classes do they enter them in? I see some meat pens  ;)

The girls were entered in the meat or market pen, (as some call it) class. The class has you show 3 rabbits as a pen. They both showed 2 pens each. This year I decided to let them show New Zealand's. The last 2 years they showed California's and did middle of the pack. The last judge we had loved the N.Z., this year we had a new judge who didn't like N.Z. at all. All 20 pens of N.Z. out of a total of 151 pens didn't place, bottom 25% doesn't place or go to the auction.

 

I'm very PROUD of my girls, just not happy with the judge.

 

Always be next year I guess.

We always had our Co. and State fairs in IN. in late summer. Down here it's too hot for summer shows.

Dubois County (IN) fair...last week of July....State fair middle of August...And it is HOT here too!

 Born and raised in Crawfordsville, IN.. Lived there until 1986 when I moved to Columbus, IN. for about 5 years. That's when I move to N.C. lived there until we moved to TX. in 2005.

Sorry I missed this thread Brian, and sorrier that the girls had a SORRY judge!  With that many NZ rabbits, it's clear the judge was prejudiced. 

  But glad the girls had fun, and that's what it's all about.  (I'd be talking to whomever chooses the judges)

151 meat pens???? Holy Moly!! our highest is about 25-30 pens. Sorry about your outcome. I agree about the judges, win some lose some. My son had the best Flemish 2 years ago, judge was a fancy rabbit judge, his place 2-3rd can remember. It varies from year to year at our fair, one yr Black NZ  win, next year, whites, then maybe a pen of Californians. My son wanted to try a set of Flemish meat pen, we know they wouldn't do well, but he just wanted to try, but our buck just ain't got it any more.

Yea never fails, last week of July is always the hottest and we always get a big rain storm, can be a drought, but we always get rain during fair week.
