Hi all,

We really need a little garden tractor to dig up turf for a veggie garden next year.

This past week we found an ad in the local paper for a Gilson 16hp garden tractor with a bunch of attachments included (cultivator, snow blade, etc).

Here's the trouble: they're asking $500. It says it has a "16hp Briggs and Stratton engine".

This is sounding a little too good to be true by my lights, but I don't know anything about garden tractors. What do you guys think? Is this worth a shot?

The price doesn't sound that far off, what with the attachments and all. That is ,if the tractor runs and is in half decent shape.

By the way.

Welcome to the forum.Glad to have you with us.

Welcome Kbell.  That isn't bad if the tractor isn't beat.  Read lots of posts about what to look for in buying / looking at a used GT.  There are plenty on here.  They will give you ideas of what to look for.

Glad you joined.

I paid more for mine with tiller, plow, disk, dual wheel adapters, and so on. I must say overall it is a good tractor, but run away, it can be a pita to get some of those 16 hp Briggs to start.
