The engine on my 78 Sears twin 16 has gone bad. Parts are hard to find since it is an Onan engine. No one seems to have a recommended replacement engine. Does anyone have any suggestions. the tractor overall is in excellent condition for 32 years.
thanks
Don

Hi Don, welcome to GTtalk.

If you want to do a repower there are a couple of options. As for rebuilding what you have there are sources for parts. A couple of the guys on here have rebuilt their Onan's. Hopefully one of them will chime in soon. I vote to rebuild it if you can, if not then repowering with a Honda or Kohler would be my next choices.

I rebuilt a B48G a while back. Got my rings from the link in last post, along with gaskets, & cam bearings. Luckily my pistons & rods were fine, as were my bores. I spent around $150 to rebuild it. I have owned a lot of Onan engines, & usually I can find any major part used on ebay. I've bought rods, pistons, & more & always received good parts.

Could you elaborate on "gone bad". Bad as hole in the side of the block or bad in not running right?
