That price is a little high for me, but it is not outrageous.  A serious collector would be going for that.  a serial number under 3000 with a build date of feb. of '61 is a very early cub original.  There is one for sale here locally that has a 4 digit serial number in the 9000 range without rear fenders.  It has been for sale for a while at $800.

4 digits and looking like that he might get that much. Depends on who is looking and how bad they want a 4 digit.

since the second link reappered by someone else here it is  "BEWARE - this guy is trying to sell a $500 dollar tractor for a grand ($1,000), Dont let him fool you with his bullcrap, this has the 7hp Kolher motor on it which these engines blew up because they could not handle the heat from the long use of the tractor, they replaced the motor in these with an 8hp Kolher, I will continue to post this until the seller removes the add or lowers his crazy price!"  so what do yall think of the response?

The 7 horse is the original motor they came with. Be careful of what you say. Mine is original and still runs well.

Well, I'm a little confused...I'm aware of quite a few of these that are still running fine with the 7 hp engine. I'm very slowly re-doing a model 73 and I fully plan on rebuilding the 7hp that came in it. I won't expect it to pull tree stumps but I do expect it will do grass cutting and pulling of a cart just fine for many more years. Now admittedly the 73 is direct hook up to the clutch which I personally feel is stronger than the belt drive set-up that the Originals have but to say they are prone to failure because they are a 7hp sounds like somebody is bitter about something... :(
