I read somewhere about the cast iron Briggs horizontal as being something different with the engines with 2 humped cooling fins, center of the head. My 14hp cast iron Briggs on my Bush Hog JBI tractor, model 300424 has the 2 humped head fins. What difference does this signify? I can't remember what I read. CRS has me good!

Didn't there use-to be a flat spring bracket that would ground out the spark plug to shut the engine off???
Maybe it fit's in those 2 humps.

The 16HP Briggs in my Speedex has those humps, too.

I paged through my B&S Antique manual and didn't even find a picture of that type of head let alone any mention of raised fins and their purpose. I would, however, probably agree with DH1 that they are a provision for a ignition ground when used on stationary equipment.
