I picked this up from a neighbor this weekend as part of a barter.

DSCN1650.jpg

It's a G11XL (1060) and it came with the wrong wheel on the right front...which was every bit as flat as the original wheel and tire that was on the Left front.
The engine was a little stiff and the valves as well, but we got it freed up and running. There wasn't a mosquito for miles when it finally fired. We also had to evict some mice before we got it too warm. I think it'll be a good project. Does anyone else have one of these?

Not seen one of those either....is that a Kohler engine? Not seen one set up like that before...air filter config & dip stick through shrouding.

Nice Bolens :dancingbanana: Looks to be in good shape.
The manuals say that the G-11 should have a briggs and Stratton 11HP engine...
This is the first XL series I have seen in a long time

Sorry, guess I shoulda' mentioned that. It is an 11 HP Briggs. The air cleaner feeds the carb through a housing and there is a shroud (pain in the a$$ mouse condominium) over the entire engine!
The serial number sticker (&%$^&*%) is missing so I have no Idea the year, but I can see where it used to be. Why do they use stickers for something as vital as a serial No.? That's just not right!
PS Who is or was FMC? Didn't they make fire trucks?

If you can get to the shroud of the engine there should be a set of Briggs numbers stamped into it. Model-Type-Code. The first 2 digits of the code are the year the engine was built. This should at least get you close unless of course the engine was replaced.

I was just doing a little research and discovered that the Bolens line was sold to Troy-bilt who was owned by a company called GWI, who filed bankruptcy in 2001 and was assumed by MTD. I'll bet parts are fun to find eh?

Thats correct

If you need parts your best chance will be the former dealers who sold them back then.

Oh, and why complain about the mosquito killing feature? I know how much you love those 'skeeters.

Is there a way to get in touch with them? Is it also possible that there might be a former dealer local to me that might still have parts?
Update: I found Sam's online, but no luck with Ray's
