After chasing the charging problem I have been having on the '71 since the summer I started to put it back together today! I put the new stator on, the flywheel, cleaned the carb and put it on, whatever covers I could put on, and I put on the new starter I bought. I also bought a threaded insert for the spark plug hole, to fix the messed up threads. That went in very easy and now it is good to go.

Before I can do anything else, I have to resurface the head. But, I have to track down a window pane first. Neighbor Herby just had a lot of work done in his house; I don't know if any windows where replaced or not, I will have to ask him.

Sounds great Ryan! Glad it is finally getting back together!

I hope your neighbor has some glass for you. The thicker the better. To bad you aren't closer, I have 2 packages( prob 10 in each ) of double pain safety glass for my sandblast cabinet. It works great for resurfacing.

After a few tries, I finally taled to Herby today. He had a few pieces of glass! He had two of them each about a quarter inch thick; they where shelves at one point. He said he had no use for them, and to take both. I ended up staying over there talking to him for longer then I planed, but with him that is always a given. I came back home and I have it all resurfaced now! I will put it all back together tomorrow.

Glad to hear you are making progress. I miss having the time to work on these things. I was excited about getting started on the 73. I took the hi lift and moved it into the shop a few days ago and that's as far as its gone. Oh, I've walked past it several times but that's as good as it gets right now. Maybe after Christmas.

I normally do not go back out to work, once I come inside for dinner, but tonight I needed to do something.

Everything went back together nicely, no major problems.

I tried to start it, but the battery was dead... go figure. I have it on the charger and it should be done charging tomorrow morning.
