I noticed this morning, that out of the 30 members listed on the members on line list, over half of them are spammers.Isn't that something ?

What do the spammers do ? Would I know one ? Reason I ask is right now I'm at work and they have some pretty stiff filters and that sort of stuff , but even at home I'm don't notice anything when I'm on , Al

According to google, a spammer is someone who performs the following:
"To indiscriminately send unsolicited, unwanted, irrelevant, or inappropriate messages, especially commercial advertising in mass quantities. Noun: electronic 'junk mail'."

Basically they are trying to post ads on the site. Many are from overseas countries, but we get hits from N. America as well.

A lot of the "Work from Home" ads you see and hear are companies hiring people to try to get in to forums, CL, etc to post ads. They get paid for any hits on the links in their ads.

With the economy as it is, expect it to get worse, not better.

A big thanks to the staff here. It sure is nice to have clean reading. The ones that do slip through sure don't last long before they get zapped.

I answered a craigslist ad once from a computer repair place. I needed to have XP reinstalled on my old computer. The guy emailed me his number and I called. He answered, said his name is Butch, and went on and on how he was a microsoft certified tech and would install the newest operating system and all these programs for less than I could by the XP in a store. I told him I would call the next day and did. This time he didn't answer and I got one of those loud anoying ring-back songs blasting me for over a minute befor going to an answering recording. I emailed him back and let him know that I thought that was an unprofessional thing for a real business to do. I said that I have had stores and businesses put me on hold with music playing but but getting blasted with anoying, loud music instead of hearing a ring was not cool.
Next day, I started getting emails from him selling something, "click heres", "work at home," "just go to this website,"etc. about 6 that day.
Went back to Craigslist and posted my own add in the computer section, telling all about Butch, the anoying, unprofessional ringback, his phone number, the spam emails coming from, yes, I posted his email too.
He called me and I let him know that if I get one more email, I will send the local police to his home because, yes, he had given me an address to bring my computer. He said his email must have been hacked and I said the hackers are good cause they also hacked your phone and put that anoying ring-back on it. He also pulled all his computer repair ads from craigslist that day.
If you can block spammers from this place, please do.

There is an another unmentionable tractor forum that when a picture which a member has posted appears an ad will pop up on the picture which is very annoying, don't need that kind of advertising.

As Kenny mentioned the software does catch the majority of the spammers. We can thank George because, if I not mistaken, he has to pay a separate subscription fee for the service. So being a site supporter help's keep the crap out of here and the lights on.
