Dad had a 1969 Mercury Marquis with a 429 -2 barrel though- only a measly 320 HP. Made a good trailer pulling rig. Flattened hills that would have our old 68 meteor with a 302 down to 35mph.

Nice! The 1st car I built was a 69 T-Bird. That was a fun car! I removed the Bird emblems and put SS emblems on the grill and trunk from a 72 Chevelle SS. took out the (huge) sliding ashtray in the console and installed a ratchet shifter. also cut the seams on the hood and raised it up to look like cowl induction and installed 429 chrome badges. Engine had a nice 750 Holley vacuum secondary carb on top.And Cragar SS rims with 60's all the way around. It was silver with the duel blk stripes on the hood and trunk deck. Man did this just bring back memories! :D

Great memories hey! That marquis was loaded. It had belonged to an elderly couple and when we got it in 73 the plastic was still on the back seats. Black and in pretty much new condition. A lot of Fords from that era were rusting but this one hadn't seen winter. Dad loved that car and had it for a long time until he didn't need a tow vehicle any longer.

Because back in the day they were the previous generation's junk. We could buy them cheap. My first car was a '67 Comet with hi-performance 289. I paid $400 for it. Not as fast as the Mustang Mach I I bought later, but pretty quick.
