I have a Craftsman II with a 44" cut, 18 h.p. twin cylinder. The model number is 917.255914. KennyP helped me in regards to its age. When looking up the manuals "library", I couldn't find that one exactly. I did see a 917.255915. Would that one be the same or is there one that would be closer to my model? This is a great website!!

Many times the model differences were minor or just different years.
I found one for a 917.255917 that should also be close,

If yours is a manual tranny, it should be very similar.

in my opinion I would go with a 917.255913 or even a 917.255910 if its a 6-speed.......either way you should be close in that ballpark. not that drastic of changes

I'm in agreement Sears making minor changes, thus changing the model #. A lower # (or only 1 higher) would be very close to yours. The 917.255915 should be very close. They could have gotten a part from a different vendor that is similar, thus making a model # change.
