Well it was a good trip.

coffee-and-map-1-635x421.jpg

We got to see family, had some fun, saw some neat stuff, and then got home in one piece.

I planned to do nothing today, but it was not to be.

Steph had an interview this morning. Just one. By the time she left she had a second one.

Sam texted and asked if I had any work to do, so I go going.

Sam, Sarah, and Nehemiah showed up.

Sarah, Emily, and Nehemiah went to walmart.

Sam an I went out and got the steering cable on the Ransome. I tried everything I could to get it to fit the way the other one was. It would not fit.

Sam found the broken one and I held them together and the new one is 3 inches longer. Since there are no others to be found I had to go with what I had.

This thing goes in a hole in the umm steering puck attached to the yoke.

cable.jpg

Then the cable is supposed to wrap around 1/2 times, cross over itself in the center, and go to the rear wheel.

With it being too long there was no way to do that.

We put it on without it being crossed. It worked, barely.

Since Delilah steered backwards before, we will jhave to learn to do it all over, Hopefully the learning curve isn't too steep.

While we were doing that I got a call from a guy who needed a car gone today. No mowing yet.

I came in and Sarah was making lunch. I didn't even know they were back.

The guy with the car said he needed a bit more time to get tires on it. I told him we were eating lunch so no problem.

After  BBQ sandwich, Sam, Heath, and I went out.

Before we could get the tow dolly hooked up, Tim arrived with my dump trailer full of metal and miscellaneous junk.

I surveyed the load, then we had to leave.

On the way up 321 close to the I-40 exit, there was a beat up Isuzu Trooper tailgating me. I was going 57 in a 55. There was an unmarked State Trooper next to me. The Trooper pulled out and ran up behind the patrol car. Suddenly there were blue lights. I nearly wrecked getting off my exit from laughing so hard.

We got the car loaded up with minimal difficulty. Then headed home.

We got back and it was raining. Still no mowing.

I am beat. Sam went home, Sarah and Nehemiah had already gone.

Tomorrow I will get up early to mow. Maybe.

Home again, home again
Jiggity jig.

I don't know what it meant, but Dad always said it upon the successful return to home after a trip.

Well, what else can break.

This morning Steph left in Christine for an interview. I had a chance to get a few more winks.

I was having a sweet dream. I was back in high school. Jennifer Fuqua was there. And then the phone rang, reality was calling. Christine had broken down.

26901dfee0e40656a86ef52477435653--coffee

So Heath and I quickly got dressed, unhooked the tow dolly,  and jumped in TheKracken and roared off. We scooped Steph out of a parking lot then ran to Charlotte. Steph went in . Heath went to the playground ( I could see him)  I tried to read an article on my phone. I didn't have much success.

Steph came out and we headed home. We stopped and gave Christine a second chance to get home. She got about 1/4 mile and started shaking so bad that I could see it driving behind it.

We left it in a church parking lot and went home.

Steph got in work clothes.

When I got out of the truck I noticed the tow dolly was not where I left it. It had rolled across the yard. Fortunately it didn't hit anything.

We hooked it back up and left.

On the way back from the scrap yard I nearly ran out of gas. TheKracken stalled at an intersection, but I got it restarted and to a station.

We got home and got the tow bar for Christine and headed down to Dallas.

We needed something to put over the end of the trans to keep it from leaking all over the place. I didn't have any tape. So Heath and I went next door to the Family Dollar. I got a roll of electrical tape and some rags.

When Steph pulled the driveshaft one of the caps was missing off the rear u joint. That could be the problem. She taped a cut Gatorade bottle over the trans and we headed home. Again.

I didn't want to get involved in a repair and have to leave it to go get a car when the guy called. So we elected to work on some other stuff.

I got the grinder and attempted to do some work getting the removable forks to work on Gertie. I thought I had it working, til we tried to pick up something and they went wonky. I decided it was time for a break.

It was 430 and we had to wait for Tim to get home with his flatbed trailer. He got home at 530.

We went and picked up a 2001 Mercedes ML430. It only needs a few minor repairs and it will get ready to sell.

And TheKracken decided to be hard to start. I hope that is a simple fix.

Back home, again, we unloaded. I took the trailer back to Tim's. Steph started dinner.

I may have skimmed a few pages of this, but is that the same hat? I have some 20+ year old boots, but hats get "unuseable" after 5 years. (aff/bdah)

I had to get a new hat  due to an incident involving a cutting torch.

Some years ago I bought a used transmission and it had a cap that fitted over the output shaft and sealed it so fluid didn't run out.
