We have all seen those ads on craigslist where there is a brand new loader for sale, and the seller wants about three grand. Well, we all know those are scams. I heard that a lot of them are just for the people to get your email address so they can fill your spam box with junk not related to the ad.

I decided, to do an experiment! I just created two email addresses. One is a control, one is the experimental account. One I will reply to a few of the ads that are obviously scams and see how many emails I get. The other I will do nothing with and that way we have something to compare to. I know that logic tells us a brand new email should not receive anything. But, for the sake of science... I made it.

I will update the thread every so often, and let you guys know how full the spam box is getting.

Now, one HUGE problem! Believe it or not... I can't find any scams on my local craigslist! So, if you guys could PM me an ad so I can reply to it, that would be great!

Interesting ! If I run across a good spam ad I will hook you up. They get flagged pretty quick most of the time.

Ryan, I was thinking this was a spam thread with a spam post. Other night I helped to wipe out a spammer, was hoping (and thankful) that I didn't have to help wipe out you lol. Good luck with the experiment. No one smart enough down here to scam lol.

What kind of email accounts? Free web based email, like my Hotmail, are spam machines. They are free because they sell your information. I don't know about accounts from local ISP's. I assumed they don't sell to spammers, but maybe they do?

I think some members might agree that most of what I post is spam, more or less...

I am using yahoo, a free one. I thought that they might do that, but I had no idea. Thanks for the info! I guess it is a good thing that I created the control!
