From what i remember of last year, Will took some pretty big pains to make sure there were no contaminants in the machine, all oils drained and residue removed.

Yes, Alan is correct. It was well degreased, pressure washed and oils drained, prior to last years sinking.
(I'm pretty sure that's noted in last years opening post)

How early in the season were you able to set it out last year?

It was very late last year. I think it was around the 10th of Jan. Fall was abnormally mild.
In a normal year, the ice should be ready in a week or so, which it might be this year.
I won't take it out till there is at least 6-8 inches, just in case we get a 2 or 3 day thaw.
Don't want to lose it before we even start.

It looks like it's going to get mild again starting on Sunday, possibly for a week. That's a delay.

After Will having it shipped across the big pond, he'll not be sinking it in even the smallest pond!

It shouldn't be long if all that cold weather moves over from Alaska. Saw the weather map yesterday and Alaska looked colder than my ex-wife's heart.

Yes, I agree. Looks like the next week or so, is going to be just above freezing during
the day, and only just below at night.

Just as a refresher guys, here is the link again to last years opening post. It explains the rules, and
eligability. Once we get this wreck out on the ice, the game will begin. Come on cold weather.
