We are having trouble keeping dad's 800 running. I haven't had a chance to look at it yet so I am going by what dad has told me on the phone. I want to redo the wiring on it in the spring. I know there is a resistor on it connected to a switch to shut it down and I think this may be part of the problem.

He put a new battery in it but it won't turn over on it's own but if he jumps it from the 600 it will fire right off and run like a champ as long as the jumper cables are attached. Once he disconnects the negative it shuts off. I think it is either a bad ground or the resistor / shut off switch is the culprit. I wanted to get some other opinions on it before I started tearing in to it.

Sounds like it has bad ground...
Got any available pics of the setup by any chance?
If you want I can get you a wiring diagram

I don't have any pics of it yet. I might try and get down there tomorrow to have a glance at it because I know it is killing him not being able to play with the tractors. I guess the 600 is being a pain to start as well.

I remember there being a little bit of a mess of the wiring, I think they switched the ignition style or something and just let some of the old wiring on it. I want to make it original or have it electronic and wired cleanly.

If its a mess, I'd start from scratch and do it right.
There's nothing worse than a wiring mess.
