I am looking at buying a Case 220 that is missing the engine. The owner says everything else is there except the engine. Is there anything about Case's Kohler engines that is specific to Case? I have a K301 from a Cub Cadet 125, but I'd like to know what will/won't work before I decide to pick it up. I've never owned one, so can anyone help?

Well there are 2 things that you need to be concerned with. One is input the other output. for example, the kohler has 2 sides to it the 'front' side has a shaft which is used for the PTO, to power implements, decks, snow blowers etc...the other side a hydraulic pump bolts to via a love joy connector. so you will definitely need that. Aside from those 2 basic differences the Case has a fuel pump because the tank is under the seat and i believe the cub has a gravity fed carb, the fuel pumps are 'attainable' so, if you can deal with the clutch, and the lovejoy for the hydraulic pump you're good...

Rajkoski......I'm no expert that's for sure but I'm working on my '71 444 right now and have the hood off so I thought I'd throw a few pics your way in case the 220 and 444 are similar. If someone advises that they aren't similar at all feel free to disregard the pics.

The owner says the hydraulic pump is there and assumes everything else is too. I heard that there is a "step" on the PTO side of the engine that the pump bolts to on the Case. The 10hp would have had a flat oil pan and my K301 has a dipped pan, which I know can be changed with a different rod. Just wondering if the PTO shafts are different between Case and IH Cub.

As for the 2600.00 tractor, I have seen this much asked for the Big wheeled tractors, but definitely out of my interest level at that price range. If I spend that much for an old GT, it's going to be an Oliver or something rare like that. You could look at it a different way too though. What kind of GT can you buy new for that money? You have to decide if it's worth it to you. Other opinions may not matter.

2600 looks steep to me even for up here. I'm not sure if this is an issue for the motor swap but some Kohler blocks have the external mounting tabs and some have the threaded holes in the block.

to the op...I'm pretty sure the 220 was gear driven...it is probably just a bit different from the 444 depicted...

Thanks for the pics, moosetales. The main question I had was whether the Case's "torque tube" will bolt to the Cub's Kohler. I was told by a local Machinist/Garden Tractor Puller friend that the Case Kohlers had a "step" cast into the block for the love/joy to bolt on to....

I guess I won't know for sure unless I get it home and try. My friend said he's got a Case block that we could switch the internals if need be.
