Will, what color is the grill on your Exec tractors?

When I did the Execs last winter, I did the grill screens in Silver Mist Grey. From all the researching, and looking at pics, that's
what I determined was the OE colour. Just the other day, I was looking at the MF8E parts book, in print, and online.
No mention of paint codes.

So, what you're saying Alan, in not so many words, is that MF sent the paint over to Gutbrod, and had them paint
the Elf to match other models in production at the time? Are you saying, it made sense to use the paint they had on hand
at the time?
And that they would have put that paint on a ship, sailing from New York, headed to Antwerp, possibly the Maersk Palermo?
I don't want to put words in your mouth, but do you think it should be Silver Mist Grey?

Just catching up on this restoration Will. It's looking great and sure is a different beast than the american built GT's. It looks to me like the grill is yellow in the B and W pics. It seems to have about the same tone as the grill. The silver would probably look nicer with the yellow. The contrast would help bring out the shape of the grill.

I think the natural metal colour looks good. Or a colour to look like bare metal.

I think the yellow picture is an artists colourization of a B&W image. Adding yellow to the grill would help make it pop in the ad.

The last pic may not be the best candidate - the grill looks like it's been replaced.

Back then, many ads, manuals etc were printed in colors using multi pass printing. Each color was printed separately.
You see many prints from this era where the colors dont even line up.
Adding a third color (gray, silver, metal) would add a yet another step to the process. Possibly even silver ink being more expensive. The extra color may have been eliminated as a cost cutting measure.

And lest we forget, that even in production they can't always make up their mind. Just think of the red accenting on the early MF10/12 tractors on the wheels, PTO pedal etc... There is a high chance they did the grille a few ways too! I still say the silver mist is the way to go, not too bright like the grille silver on the 10/12, but a little darker to offset the yellow. Worst case, it's simple to repaint it, right?

So, I think, what you're say here, is that you're still undecided. Sitting on the fence. :smilewink:
I don't think we could ever go shoe shopping together. :poke:

Agreed, things don't always go as planned in production, and more so, back then, they would have improvised.
I have another piece of grill screen material, and can easily get more (free). Hey, I could make one for every day of the
week. Here is a colour pick I found last night. Only one I've seen.

Hard to tell in that pic what color it was, but it's not yellow! Looks like a silver, but not a bright silver. Maybe the MF Silver mist?

It could be white, as the shadowing effect of the expanded metal will darken the look at an angle like that in the pic. I think white is the best candidate. It just goes with the rest of the tractor better I think.
