Kohler manual says bore for an Original 7hp K161 is 2.938" while the IH manual says the bore is 2.875". Which one is correct?

I would say, unless there are more numbers to the model number, that I would trust the Kohler manual. If there are additional numbers / letters, there might have been a special build for IH. However, those additional numbers usually indicate added features such as a different oil pan or carburator, not a different displacement. The "extra" stuff is denoted pretty well on the Kohler website. If you have the original manual, you may not have this info, so here's a link just in case. just my $.02.

I have also added the manual to the "manuals" tab on this site. Hope this helps.

Seems as I recall this coming up at an engine repair forum, perr.com. If I remember right, there were a few engines that did come 2.875, but rare, and parts not available, requiring boring to the 2.938.
