I just picked this up from a guy south of Salt Lake-- Only about 50 miles away instead of 250!! It has a Kohler K301 engine, spec 47403.

AC 312 RH.jpg

The hood says Allis Chalmers, but there isn't any model number. Serial number tag on left side of dash shows 04601201. Manual transmission--shaft drive to a right angle gear, then belt drive. 3 speed shift lever, plus a lever on the right for ranges...

Anyone else have any information?

Looks like a nice heavy built tractor. I think that would be a 310 but I'm sure.

The 312 and the 310 are similar I believe, the difference being the 312 has a 12 hp engine and the 310 a 10 hp engine.

Well, if that is the original engine then it is a 312 as you assume. It also has the fat front tires which would support your conclusion. The confirming information is the number you copied off the builders plate. (04601201). The first three digits are the last three digits of the builders number 1600046 which is the identifer for an AC 312. The serial number is 01201. It is a strong performer but the variable shift can be troublesome if badly worn.

It has been used hard. The PO used it to maintain a 2 acre pasture... I didn't get any implements with it... hopefully it runs well--I'll probably check that out tomorrow.

I downloaded the operator's and parts manuals from the site here... what things do you look at on the variable shift?

Congrats on getting your first A-C!

If you haven't already done so, you might want to download the service manual for your 312. There's more on the variable speed on pages F-20 thru F-23 in this manual.
