This was for a 1995 Craftsman with a Hydro-Gear transmission. In the owner's manual it says the unit is sealed, but Hydro-gear suggested changing annually.

Definitely a good idea to change the oil annually in these. They don't hold all that much oil, so it gets trashed quick. If you've ever opened one of these up, the oil looks black as jet, and certainly shortens the life of the unit dramatically.
