I guess that depends on what you would call burnt up. If you want the roots gone, it'll take a few weeks IMO them roots will just sit and smolder for a long time.

I've heard it suggested to drill holes down into the stump, fill them full of diesel fuel, plug them and let them set for a few months.

Might get a little more action if you drill a few 1" holes at ground level and give it some air.


The heck with that, just use the blower output on your shop vac ! Instant blast furnace.

Just be careful !!

My buddy bunt out a big old pine stump that way.

The way it burned the bottom first made it into a natural furnace. I think that's why It's burning so quick. I'm sure it's slowed down since the side burned out.

Don't do what my dad did once, get some black-powder, dig under, make a fuse and let er rip! Yup, that stump was gone. Last time I burned a stump I dug under a good bit, there were already holes on top, put some old oil on, and there ya go. I found while it's kinda only a flicker to hit it with an axe to open it up more to burn easier.
