Kenny, I have rebuilt 2 of the B/S 18 opposed. Matter of fact the whole Craftsman II tractor. I can help where I can, and PS If you are parting anything I may be interested.

I found a repair manual for it. That gives me an idea of what to do anyway. Main thing will be to see what damage exists. The rest of that rod is still hooked to the crank , I think. I haven't tried to turn it over as yet.
Those pics (CD) might be a real good thread to have in the Mechanical forum. Then lots of folks would have access to it.

Kenny, let me sweeten your deal. I have a few, um ,DOZEN of those engines, I only use them for racing. So I pull all the stock pieces out of them, rods pistons etc…and scrap them.

Anyway, we may have to go through a few to find the best one, but I'll swap ya a good long block for your blown one.

Kenny- I think that deal just got better with that long block swap offer!

I did rebuild a 422*** some time ago, and found some parts to be NLA... Took a while , but I tracked 'em down eventually. The rods were the tricky bit, so much so that we got a couple sets, and got a spare motor along the way.

Once ya tear it down, let us know your needs, though it seems like Rooster Lew has a nice cache of parts for ya!

Before I tear it down, I will be making a trip to Coffeyville, KS. (Only an hour or so away. Need some 6 pt. Buds anyway!)My main concern is how bad the rest of the rod tore up things inside and how bad is the crank.

Kenny, the crank I had took a beating, as the exhaust valve took a trip through just about every jounal in the thing. Had it spun balance to 7K RPM, and still right as rain. Has to turn it down on the main bearings a touch ( thus the oversized rods) but still ran true.

Head wes left in 5 pieces, piston had a hole in it from the valve top pinging around in there, etc....

You'll be fine .

Watch when you get in there, there are some sharp edges. I think this is why mine run so well.

Thanks, Larry! I'll keep that in mind. I've shed enough blood over the years on things like that!
