Easy enough mistake. Many Bush Hog models used TEC or Wisconsin, while the JB series was exclusively Briggs.

That is odd. All others with this type transmission just have the shaft coming from the transaxle without any extension through the cover plate. It would appear to be OE being the upper plate is the correct red. At the same time, it makes me wonder if this was added by an owner for some odd reason??? Seems though if it were OE, the extension shaft would be butt welded instead of bent & welded to the flat lever.

Nice looking machine! Can honestly say I don't ever recall seeing a Bush Hog GT in person.

Mine looks about the same from under neath. Shifting this beast I am still having issues though. I have all of my gears, however my clutch does nothing. I have to turn it off, shift gears then start back up. I took the clamshell cover plate off on the right side and saw everything was moving as it should at least I think it was.

What would be causing it not to shift into gear?

Peter, I don't know what the problem could be. Is your clutch releasing in the bell housing? That is the only thing I can think of that would cause your issue.

Could be the disc is stuck to the flywheel and not loosening when you push the pedal down.

I know exactly zero about the BH trannies, but are your brakes adjusted up? The Massey, WH, and Sears all like to have their brakes proper, otherwise they have a tendency to grind.

I've mentioned that before & suspect this is the case.

^ Yep you said that about my other one. Now if that is in fact the case here, how would I go about correcting it?

Would it be a matter of just spraying it with some kind of lube and letting it sit or would I need to take the entire thing apart?

Brakes feel good, but I will inspect that as well.

Is the clutch disc (I assume that's what you're talking about?) Part S8-18 in the D4-10 manual sticking, is that a common issue?

Looking at the manual, you're thinking it's sticking to S1243 the clutch shaft?
