Well, looks like Monday I get my Black Frame 448. I must admit I am real geeked up about it. Probably...no definitely in the best shape of any tractor I own. I know it was cared for well and this will compliment the other 'Black Frames' I have well (now I have a 448, 222, and XC110) Maybe I will get the entire black frame collection...kinda the way I am thinking right now... Oh well, when I get it, I'll post some pics up so you guys can see it...

I kinda feel like a kid, I've waited well over a year...and now it materializes...:-)

How many of those have white implements? And do they have white seats?

Well, the 1984 line All implements were 'power white'...although it was not uncommon for a dealer that had the 'power red' implements to sell them with the tractor in that they would work just fine. But officially all the implements manufactured in that year were power white. And yes, the Seats were also white. Across all models from the midgets to the big guys...

And from what I understand there were a few manufactured in 1983 with 1983 serial numbers that had the 'black frame' options and characteristics...but they were made for the 1984 model year...so it was very late 1983...

Well it is my understanding the term "balck frame' name was coined by tom arnold. The fact they were only manufactured in 1 year makes them kind of a 'rare bird'. There was nothing inherently 'special' about the black frames per say, other than the fact they were the product of the 1984 model year. And as we know the numbers do not grow so as time passes the single model year will become, harder to find. Someone like Steve Guider or Jason Kozlowski would be able to tell you why, and whose idea it was ...but I believe it was Mr. Ingersoll's idea.

So any 1984 would have a black frame or is it just certain ser. no's within that year. This fact would makes it easy to recognize a 1984.

Some late 'very late 83's and a few very early 85's but they were 'supposed to be' 84's ...Cas//Ingersoll wasn't to 'good' about 'deadlines'...

Very nice! I also own one and have a couple of questions. My deck is painted flambeau red and has a black seat. The paint looks original. I would like to restore this at some point. Would appreciate your thoughts.

Sorry this answers my question. I also have the 48 inch Snowblower and the Bagger system. Should those be Power White?

Yes sir...

DownLoad this planning guide...

My thought is these are supercool restored...thus I have a 448, 222 and an XC110 all 'black frames' and I am pretty sure I will have the entire setup someday...
