Was over to my welder's place today and looked at this old tractor out back. Has real nice heavy 3pt hitch, 10hp Briggs, Heavy cast grill, fiberglass dash all frayed. Says Farm King on hood, but is much smaller than my 990 version, yet much like it in appearance. Oh, and a transaxle, not hydro. Deck sure looks alot like my bigger MTD. The engine is turned 90* from what the 990 is, so diff set-up there. I saw on epay a brochure for 75 tractors that looks somewhat like it on front cover. I gave $80 for it, or will tommorrow actually, well worth that for the great hitch. I'll get pix and numbers off it if I can find them and post. Sound like anything familiar and have any pix here of one??

If the front grill looks like a 990, it could be a 930. But 10hp sounds small, I thought 930's had 14 or 15 horse engines.

I was just looking at some op manuals and the 860's show some years having a 10hp engine. So it's either a 760 or 860.
I am wondering though as you said the grill is similar to a 990. If it's either of those two tractors, the grill should be identical. And yes, the 760 and 860 are gear drive with a maual deck and 3pt lift.

OK, got it home, tore down some, loosened up steering and controls, washed it off with hose some and vaccummed the leaves and sticks out of most places. Removed the deck, got enine to crank, no spark, played with 3pt. Have some numbers, but can't read the ticket with model on it. Can see only a few #'s and they don't make sense to me. Serial help? Have good read on that.

Model 1 1122 6 (maybe way right) or
1 4122 6 certain light that second one looks like maybe a four angle on it??
Serial 41-002-7187

Engine code is 77020712 which if reading right is Feb 7th of 77? So tractor might be a 77 or 78?

Check out the welding rod pins for wheels and the "rare" optional drink holder! Also found original red under hood and foot steps. That grill is cast aluminum.

The 3pt is odd the way it is set-up. It comes back and narrows instead of widening. But, when you turn around they are way wide as body of tractor is wide. Is this narrow set-up right? PO had third link and drawbar on it and locked up. I removed and the lift works with spring assist now. What ya think on narrowness? I also can't tell if they made the adjustable lift links or not? Have to remove from hitch to adjust, no knob on top and can't swivel below. PO was a welder/fabricator so maybe he made? There is also a draw bar on front that might be homemade, but nice.

Was on MTF site and found a fella there with an 84 Turf Trac that was green and just like my Farm King. First one I have seen that is just like mine, cept name and color. It's real sharp green too. I wrote him a private message, hope he sees it and has details on manuals for it. Another guy on next post looking for same info for a Ranch King that loooks like these.

GL, I spent some time at MTD's manual site. I kept trying different variations of the model number, even tried "*" in it where you were unsure...

I've pretty much narrowed it down to either you have a wrong digit in there or
You have a push mower that someone put bigger tires and a seat on.
Almost every variation that I tried came back with a push mower (one time I got a tiller)

Sorry I can't help.

The 140-995-000 manual is the closest thing to mine. It is a hydo and a twin 18, but rest of chassis looks about same in the parts sections. Does that get us any closer?? Is there a model coder reader info that shows what each section means and we can kinda make up a model?? Have been to MTD site and can only get it to give me bigger 990 type rigs when I try stuff. That one like I was noting that was a Ranch King was called 1644. Maybe engine size and deck? But it was from 84 and mine is 77 maybe. Why is this so hard???? I ordered that 75 brochure off epay tonight and hoping it might show my model in it. Will have to wait and see.

I believe you have a 147-912A. I uploaded an Owner's Manual to the MTD Tractor Manuals section.

Hey! Hey! You Got it! Wonderful! Let Me give You a big Kiss..........or maybe just say THANKS! It has ALL the features mine has and we are happy on This end. Now I know where to start when shopping for parts. I need the fiberglass dash bad, might have to do some clear-coating on this one though. I was all itchy in hands from handling it!
