"I got a good deal. Paid about nothing for it." (That's before I put all the parts in. :D )
"It's all about investment, I buy this for nothing, fix it up, use it some and then sell it." (Which I do) :beerchug:"
"Well, now you can have one. One for me, one for you." (Although at times we already had four. )

If those don't work it's the ole "Cause I may need it" trick.

Dad once asked me what I thought of the latest MH Pacer he rescued. I did a slow circle turn, noting all the tractors, etc... looked at him and said "Dad, it's gonna be one Hell of an auction...."

My excuses are in black, and Kathy's replies are in red:

Don't worry, I already have a buyer. (You better have)
I really could use the parts off this. (Don't you have enough already?)
But Babe, I got it for nothing. (But Troy, where are you going to put it?)
Don't get upset, it's not staying long. (I know it's not!)
The guy was going to throw it away. (So why didn't you let him?)
I need this to complete the set. (Thought you finished the set with the last one?)
But Babe, it's for the kids. (Yeah right, you don't even let them drive the one's they have now)
I just had to have it. (I hope it's comfortable to sleep on!)
I got a really good deal. (You don't need anymore tractors!!!)
But Babe, I don't tell you how to spend your money! (That's entirely different, and you know it)
It's going towards the investment. (I don't want to hear it, you'll never sell them)

So from now on, I make any pick up arrangements while she is at work. If she is not here when I get home with the new member, then everybody is happy. She doesn't see it, and I don't have to explain it!

If I think she'll squawk, I get a buddy to store it for a while until the timings better. Or I try to get it in under cover of darkness.

She has almost stopped asking questions she knows I will have to "Bend the truth" to answer.

My wife is clueless. If i do bring one to our house to use or work on i just say i had this for a while. She says oh!Then i say i brought it home to repair so i can use it.If she saw what i brought home in the last 2 weeks she'd just say were did you get the money.I say from my part time job.She says o.k.I love it when the kids tell her daddy spent hundreds of dollars on tractors.I tell her it was $100.All smoothed over then.

You guys got it all wrong. You tell her about the tractors, but you don't tell her about all the parts you buy. It's easier to hide the parts. LOL

I want the reason Will gave for buying the Elf. He already has a shed full and he didn't buy this for parts either.

My wife has gotten rather suspicious of me lately. I already have 4 masseys and 4 gravelys here at the house and haven't bought any since January. Every so often though, she'll look at me and ask where this or that tractor came from. She's happy enough when she can volunteer my tractors to work for someone else, though. Wonder what she'll say when I bring the last two gravelys home from Dad's house. (if and when it sells)
