I'm working on restoring a Cub Cadet Original and have already had a lot of help from the folks in this forum. Its a very helpful place. Thanks everyone.

I would like to replace the coil that came with the Cub. Is it a standard 12 volt coil that I could get at a auto supply store or is there something unique about it that I would need to try to get one from IH or Kohler?

Thanks, Bob

If you have a coil with an internal resistor, yes a later automotive coil will work. If the cub has an external resistor then just by pass it.

Thanks for the quick reply. I got this cub with the engine in a basket. How can I tell if it has an internal or external resistor?

bobp on a new coil they should say on the shell weather or not it is an internal resistor coil or external resistor is required. Napa has the internal resistor coils for less than $20.
