Got a line on a plug aerator for $100. It seems to be no-name one from Princess Auto (similar to Tractor Supply from what I understand)...black with "lawn-mower wheels." No pics and I haven't seen it yet, but from that description I'm guessing it's made in China and not the best thing out there

Still, I got one of those cheap lawn sweepers at Princess Auto and once I stumbled through the wholly inadequate assembly instructions it turned out to be a pretty good machine.

So what's a cheap, used plug aerator worth? Should I spend the money?

Also, the same guy apparently has a dethatcher, I think. The description on that is "one of those rake things that pulls dead grass." It's also black with lawnmower wheels, so I'm guessing the same kind of no-name, made in China machine. Not sure of the price on that.

As you may have gathered, my info is second hand from somebody who doesn't know what this stuff is.

I have no idea what either is worth, really. I've been keeping an eye out for both these items though. I hate going in without a clue what I'm doing though. Any idea what a decent offer would be?

They are about 200-250 new, look at the metal that makes the plug, some are so weak/cheap that a few hits of a rock will bend them over.

Have you looked at the Princess Auto site to see what the cost would be new! They have those on sale occasionally.

They only list a slightly different one now, I think. It seems to be on sale for $154 on clearance today though, which is about $70 less than it was on Saturday. Of course they don't have any in stock, so I can't look at one.

I looked at Tractor Supply online and their dethatcher was listed at $119, but the plug aerator was listed at $249. Good luck in the negotiations Rev!

They aren't worth a whole lot after their bought new. I see them on Craigslist for $50 or so quite often.

I went and looked, then I walked away. I've seen thicker metal in cigarette packages. A few of the plugs were already bent. Oh well, guess I keep looking.

Too bad Rev. Hopefully you didn't have to go far to look.

Nah, only about 30 minutes from here. It scares me that there's things out there that poorly built though.
