I just measure how long I need and go to farm and home store in the mower section and buy what I need.

You can go with a part# and order from dealer, but it would be cheaper most likely just to take a tape measurement and get one at a farm or auto supply store, some things like this really are genetic, I like to go a little longer in case a different battery is ever needed and the posts are not the same.

The modern cables from the auto parts store tend to be reasonably priced and very heavy gauge as well. I put new ones on my JD314 last year and just got the standard size that was longer than the measurement. Only maybe 7$ each and very heavy gauge cable.

The positive cable hooks to the solenoid in the dash tower and the negative is usually grounded to the engine through the starter generator bracket.
