The thing died yesterday out of the blue.. I tried a different coil, no luck and thats where my troubleshooting skills end.lol... it has a 16 hp kohler. any ideas?

Check your points, and all the connections in the ignition circuit. It could also be a safety switch. Have a look at the wiring and look for any burnt or loose connectors, wires disconnected etc.

I took a look at the points, they wre kind of corroded at the contacts, i cleaned them up with some emery cloth and still have no fire... could it be the condenser?

Well, i traced the problem down and it seems the ignition switch is bad. I had no power at the coil and ran a hot wire to it and it fired right up, removed the wire, wiggled the key around and now it starts fine most of the time... Anybody know where to get a new switch? I called the snapper dealers around here and most hadnt even heard of a 1650

One from an older Cub Cadet will work.
Make sure it's for either wide frame or narrow frame those had Kohlers with Battery ign. The 383 and lower used B&S motors.
