I ordered an electric pole saw from Amazon.com yestrerday, and since then I've noticed that a few other sites have different weights listed in the specs. 8.0 lbs, 8.5 lbs. 10.0 lbs. and 12 lbs. Same model #.... Just wondered if anyone else has run into this, and if there's a good answer.

Can't see why there'd be such a variance in weight unless one comes with extras that another doesn't...hopefully it doesn't mean you'll have to order & pay shipping for some doodad to make your unit complete. Good luck!

Hi OT, I don't buy anything in internet. I like to go to a shop, take the tool or what ever in my hand, speak with the seller and buy it - or let it be.

Hey jd, I usually would do the same as you, but I couldn't find it anywhere for the same price. In fact, I couldn't find it in any store. They all listed it online. I figure I can always return it. It does get great reviews though !

Sometimes I think they give the item weight and other times the shipping weight. I think they round up sometimes when giving the shipping weight and packaging could vary as well causing a slightly different weight.

A carb kit (< 1lb) from Seardpartsdirect still cost you $15.00+ in UPS shipping. when it could be placed in a flat rate invelope. Go figure.

I'm thinking it's just to make a little more on shipping & handing. An 1/2 or 1 pound x 100,000 packages adds a lot to the bottom line

Thanks guys. JD and John, your answers seem about right. Still, it doesn't help the consumers much, does it. This is one of those items that isn't easy to find in stores so we have to rely on the info we glean from websites, and I could only find vendors sites and not the manufacturer in this case. Again, thanks to everyone for answering a somewhat inconsequntial question.
