I had to call my banker. They will cover my check till I can come in to sign the loan papers if I go buy this machine. If nobody buys it off ebay, then I'm gonna try to go look at it Saturday between milkings. Unless I change my mind. Owing money weighs on me heavy, so I may decide against it. Then someone may buy it before then anyway. I called the owner.

Uh Oh! Been researching the 5000 series, and they had SERIOUS problems in all areas of these tractors. Mostly transmissions, but lots of front drive issues as well. I may have to drop this idea!

The guy said it moves, but slow. Not in working condition at all. He said the engine & hydraulics work fine. Kind of leary of it unless he'd be willing to drop the price a LOT!

So what type of drive train do thay have? shaft to the hydraulic pump... which is not the issue right? then a hydrostatic trans which IS the problem...

Yes, many of them, especially the first year, which this one is, had multiple trips to the shop for hydrostatic issues. Many also had front diff failures. Many were bought back rather than even try to repair them. I'm still mulling it over.

Dan if it was me i would stay away. I know alot of them had trans problems and have seen several with the same amount of hours with the same problem. If you do look into it i would check cost of the trans rebuild.

I would not go near it. Even if you can get a rebuild done for a good price, how long will it be before it needs to be done again? Just my thoughts on it.

I think I'll just keep using my trusty old MF1855 with the loader I built. I know I can keep it going cheap enough, and it does all I need it to do.

Good call Daniel.

I put in an offer for what I pay for the FEL and the seller declined... Good luck to him...

He got an offer of $3500 and accepted it. A new hydro unit is $985. If that took care of all it's ailments, then not too bad. But it may do it all over again, and there's the front end issues they have. Just not worth the risk for me. It would be asked a lot of around here, and this ole Massey with loader of mine IS up to the challenge..... and it's paid for!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
