I was at a large flea market two weeks ago. Maybe some of you have heard of Shipshewana, IN. in the heart of Indiana's Amish settlement. I have been going there for, oh.... 20 or 25 years. Well, there is a guy there who sells NOS Craftsman tools and mowers and such. He had a Craftsman 2hp router with 2 bases plunge and fixed both in a Craftsman tool bag for $99 with all accessories and manual. He stated that it came with a one year warranty. Not Sears warranty, his own warranty. I've seen him there at the flea market for several years, so I bought it. Also, he told me that new, the set cost $175.

Well, move up to a week or so ago. I go to use the tool and it doesn't run right. The rpms shift up and down some, although when I try to use it on a piece of wood it smoothes out. I don't know anything about these modern routers with electronic feed back and variable rpms, so I think maybe that's the way they work, okay. The next day I go to use it again and it doesn't run, period.

Now I have spent the last week trying to get ahold of the guy and all I get is the answering machine everyday until the machine is full and won't take anymore calls!!! Today I know he has to be at the flea market, again no calls.

Oh, and the $175 list price? The current list price is $113.

My first error was not knowing the value of what I was buying. Second, I relied on a personal guaranty of someone I don't know. I may have to return the tool to Indiana for a refund. Or, I may have to repair the tool myself.

No deals at this flea market.
