I have had issues with the smart chargers doing that Doc.. I am only using the older style chargers now. Also, the smart chargers that I have need to see some kind of a charge to realize that it's hooked up to a battery, I don't care for that either.

Doc, I think you are fine. You are supposed to charge a battery until it is percolating (bubbling) because that is a sign that you have cycled the battery back up to where it was supposed to be. And the battery should get warm in this process. It can actually save a half dead battery from death. As long as the water level in the batteries is fine you are ok, just top off with distilled water if low. If you need it now and the battery has already been ruined, any water is better than none.

However, if you are using the battery only to start the tractor and run the coil you WILL ruin that battery, so fix that charging system. Trust me, I HAVE killed two batteries doing it that way.
