The carb on the engine had a mounting ear broken off, but I had an old carb body in good shape, just bad dirty. Got both carbs mostly apart & soaking. Will be able to make one good carb from the 2. As soon as I get a carb back on the engine, I'll get some video. Right now it's kinda hard to pull the rope, have the carb spray ready, and hold a camera at the same time! :smilewink:

That's great, that the engine is in good shape. That means, that you should
have this girl on her feet, a whole lot sooner.

It will certainly help a lot Will. The transaxle has like new gear oil in it, and no leaks at all. So I also think I can avoid any transaxle work. These two major items in good working order means almost zero mechanical work, other than what's involved cosmetically. I would rather strip & repaint each piece as I go, and it will be some time before I can take on such a project. What I'd like to do first is to strip the frame & all the large pieces in my e-tank before wintertime, shoot them with primer, then set them back for when I can get into it serious like.

Sounds like a good plan, Daniel! Ought to make things go a bit quicker when you do get serious with it.

This is the engine off the Bush Hog D4-10 I bought in pieces from Bush Hog Corporation. Carb is still not correct, as you can see the choke butterfly is almost completely closed. I think for now I may borrow the carb off my "Ugly D4-10" to further check the engine performance.
But she runs & NO knocks, and NO smoke at all! Great engine, just needs more tuneup work. Please look away from the mess around my shop door. Been a wild spring/summer & I never get things done like I should.

Borrowed the carb off the rusty D4-10 today, and this engine runs sweet! I also took the points apart & cleaned them up & adjusted. No difference until I swapped carbs. I have a bid on one that's on ebay, as I have no more carbs to rebuild. Something wrong with this one that I can't find. I want the rusty D4-10 back running too.

I went to remove the pipe from the 45 street elbow in the engine, and I seen right off the elbow was not solid in the engine threads. Got it out, and found I'll need to clean the threads in the block before putting in a new elbow. May see if the local hardware store has a tap to loan me to chase the NPT threads. If not, I'll get the dremel out.

Found pipe fittings I needed, so I just notched a pipe at several spots so it would chase the threads in the block. Worked great, so I now have the "pepper pot" muffler on. I also took off the back half of the bell housing & greased the throwout bearings & the driveshaft bearing with a grease needle. Once back together I pulled on the clutch lever & the clutch disengaged fine. Many times the clutch disc will freeze to the pressure plate, so i wanted to check that now. Video of her running better coming.

Runs pretty decent. I didn't tighten the throttle plate nut enough, so the throttle eases back down on me during the video. Just hung a D4-10 fuel tank from my garage door to run it. This engine is pretty much ready for cosmetic work. I'm bidding on better engine tin, a carb, and complete air filter for it now. Borrowed the air filter along with the carb from the other tractor.
