Yeah that was a terrifying night in '72, and to be homeless was even worse. 238 people died. There was National Guard manuvers going on in the area at the time and the work of those people still amazes me how they took control of a bad situation. Very fortunate that your brother in law moved away from the creek.

That gun was found at the site of a railroad station and small community called Dumont about 10 to 12 miles south of Lead. There was no trace of buildings left at all but doing some reading we learned it had been a very busy stop at one time, so we decided to snoop around it one weekend decades ago. We found 2 of the bottles from there after the flood when we had located where our house had landed after it was washed away and wrapped around a tree.

If you can ever come out this way to do some detecting let me know if you need some ideas where to go exploring.
