Okay, I've been in love the round hoods for some time but I'm not sure of their values in different conditions...

What kind of cash offer would you think is reasonable for this beauty? I understand that it's hard to tell what condition it's in but just ball park considering the pic's and information provided would a great help!

1st, I can already imagine how great she could look again w/ some love. I'd open with $150 and hope he bites immediately, (would want to seem respecful & mildly interested in doin' him the favor of takin' it off his hands..) I'm no pro, and I wouldn't want this one to get away, fingers crossed here. get er' home

Thanks for the advice. Yeah, it looks like it could be a real gem in the rough but who knows. From my limited experience it also looks to be pretty complete.

That does look to be a very complete specimin. I'd probably also open with $150, but that could be affected by whether or not the engine is original. I'm not positive, but I believe that it should be an H55B Lauson/Tecumseh. The one that's on it looks to be a smaller engine, maybe a Clinton or Kohler judging by the blower housing. Also look at the frame rail on the right side in front of the engine to see if the original model / serial tag is still there. The mower deck looks very good, but could be re-done to look better than it is. If it's original and in good shape, that will also weigh heavily into the price. The deck alone in good shape is worth $100 easily. Be aware that this is a very collectible style regardless of which model it is and there may be another offer already on the table. It could go for much more than the $150. Be prepared to spend more and set an upper limit for yourself before you go to see it. Best of luck and let us know how it goes!

Newpaws, yeah that nut roasters are the ones I really like.

caseguy, thanks for the detail. From what I've been able find picture wise... it sounds like it's a 551 but with the wrong engine. It doesn't look like the H55B Tec and it doesn't look like the Kohler K-91 so I have no idea what it is. This doesn't bother me in the least as I'm not looking for a "numbers matching" original so anything I can use to drive the price down...

I was thinking the same about the engine. Now that I'm at home on the PC instead of my phone, It actually has that Clinton look to it with the angles on the top of the blower housing. I'd get in touch with the guy and go see it. Take the cash with you and let him see what you're offering.

I would easily do $300 for it without a second thought...It has both belt gaurds and the fenders. I have seen the transmission belt gaurd sell for over a $100 alone.

No, I've backed off of this. Got some other priorities right now and have decided to hold out. I sure can't wait to get my hands on one thought!

Yes, I am getting her tomorrow morning. It has a clinton b700 engine on it. I was sorry to disappoint some of you by getting it lol. I don't want to count my chickens before they hatch so I will wait until it is loaded on the truck and headed home before I call it mine lol
