I am not a purist, but I do admire the old restored tractors. I think a tractor can never lose anything, it can only gain a new identity. My favorite tractors are like that mini 8 wheel drive articulated JD. Now that is original...I am thinking about making one of these mini road grader tractors and I would be way more proud of that than a totally original, restored 1939 "Wonderboy". I think it is all about what you feel, what else really matters? Like what you got, that is what I say.

I just like them to stay looking like a tractor, and one that is capable of doing real work. I do have a few that don't see work, BUT they are able to do true work at any time I call on them.

Interesting question alright. As Daniel brings up: Form and function or does identity=original? Is'nt a stock CUB puller still a CUB?
Is a modified/altered WH puller still a WH ? if NOT then what?

It seems to me that if you have a 55 Chev. coupe, stick in a blown Rat engine, drag tires and blow the doors off the MOPARS, its
still a 55 Chevy to me.-- :orangecool:

On the other hand if you buy a boatload of custom racing parts, build a car and hang on a piece of plastic that LOOKS like a 55 Chev. funny car, then its a PICTURE of a 55 Chev, and NASCAR does that every weekend.

When Foose took the last J.D. 4020 from their headquarters and did his thing , well I dont care if

I ever see that thing . Just plain needless and wrong. Just my opinion.

Chip Foose was given this John Deere 4020 by JD world Headquarters and asked to do a custom for them, this is what he did.

Dear Mr. Foose,
I try very hard to keep an open mind... and always attempt to see the beauty in every tractor... but could you please undo the damage you did to that nice tractor? Thank you.

It is no longer the same tractor when it goes from this:

GARDEN TRACTORS 583 (Small).jpg

To this:

HPIM0587 (Custom).JPG

In reality, if it's kept close to original in looks & power train, it the same to tractor me! ~~ Lowell

Wow, now the Foose thing is a desgrace. Why would he need a NOS 4020 to do that? He could have grabbed one from the junkyard...Wow, I am really open minded and I don't like that from any angle...

I think the Chipster should stick to cars. Soooooo outside his realm, he wrecked the poor thing. :mad2: :toilethead:

I'm one that likes to mod things to make them better at suiting my needs. When you have a completely stock and unmolested antique, in PERFECT condition, why mess with it?
