the other nite, our fridge started taking fits. I think it's the cold control, but it could be the defrost timer... stuff always happens at the worst of times.

I was asking the techs at work about issues and they asked me condition of the fridge & how many parts I wanted to pump into it. Also, it's 20 yrs old &the cold control is NLA thru normal distribution.

I did a little soul searching and decided that (against my nature) it was time to try to find another unit.

We were going to be using what we had and dealing with it's quirks until we could buy one, and that afternoon a unit came back from a delivery. This delivery was scheduled a week ago.

At 26 cu ft, it's a little bigger than what we need in our house (Karen called a big fricking elephant) but it only needed $20 in parts to get it running. It's missing a 2 shelves from the freezer, but other than that, in "New" condition.

Here is a stock photo, I didn't take one of the actual unit, but it looks just like it.

Nice score. I guess we could call this a perk.
If you get another one like that, send it our way.
Ours has been falling apart for years. Handles, crispers, shelves. It seems like
something falls off every other week.

Dont throw the old one out. They make a universal cold control that will fit it. Also defrost timers and fans.

Quick troubleshooting:
If you see ice build up on the back wall of the freezer compartment
1: Do you hear the fan running inside the freezer? No, bad fan
2: locate the defrost timer and turn it until it clicks. The fan should stop and the compressor too

Usual symptoms of stuck cold control is that the stuf in the fridge compartment freezes

If you the think the compressor is not working, disconnect from power, then remove the little black box that has wire going to it that is connected to the compressor. If it has a melted looking spot, it is bad. Replace with oem part or use 3N1 start cap.

The starter is what was wrong with the "new" one. Pulled it off the compressor & did the rattle test. Sounded like bb's in there so I knew it was at least That much wrong. Ended up being the only thing.

On the old one, it's intermittent. It will work, then not, then work. I think it's the cold cntrl, because twice it went too cold.

Dont worry about me throwing it out, I consider this a challenge at this point, just couldn't trouble shoot in the house. My wife's Cookies and Cream ice cream was in danger.

I see in the cultivator thread you have a good size garden. When the Garden produce come on you can't have too much refridgerator space(Or alt least that's Jo's arguement). Nice Score!!

Alan, glad to hear things worked out just in time with the new to you fridge. When I delivered appliances it was amazing how nice some of the stuff was that people were replacing already. We couldn't keep anything as it all had to go in the dumpster unless the trip happened to be past someone's home then we would quickly offload it.

Then there were some that you just did not want to go in their house and basically willing to quit the job because you didn't want to go in there LOL
