Anyone know how this tach works, as in mechanical or electrical? I want to add this type of tach/hour meter on my Kubota Z500.

That is a mechanical tach which uses a cable that runs from the tach to the motor.

Was just going to say that. It's from a GT14D diesel. With no spark to use as a trigger the diesel tachs are usually mechanical.

Where do you mount it, to the injector pump??

I figured it was cable, but then some larger diesels can use a pickup coil sender on the flywheel or front pulley.

Thanks Bob, and thanks for the input from the rest of you. I'm looking for a tach/hour meter for my 2cyl Kubota diesel... an hour meter is no problem but the tach is not the easiest thing to do...
