Well I went to check on the chickens and I have lost the Rooster and 1 chicken.

Well I went into the coop and found 3 baby chicks.

Just what I needed.

Sounds like a "Deadbeat Dad" flew the coop with a young chick to me.

Either this story has feet or the soup is getting a little thicker.

Well I lost another hen, and I found the one that had missing for several weeks, so far I am down 3 hens and 1 rooster, but I did find another baby last night.

Every time I go to the bedroom to check on them my little dog just has to check on them with me.

I had four chickens die yesterday from the heat. They have shade but were all four bunched up in the corner of the chicken house.

Dang, that sucks. Would they use a mister if you had one? Even if you just drilled a tiny hole in a pipe and connected it by a hose or something?

This heat is going to worse Pat, I hope you find a solution. The rolled foil is good for 30 degrees in the summer UV. Thats the product that Lowes and Steel building erectors use for steel roofing. They also make those foldable windshield covers for autos out of it.
Its no good for winter insulation-convection-, but its the best thing I know for summer UV.

Sorry to hear of your chickens too.
The best you can do is to keep air moving and cold water available. We lost a bunch one year. They were "huddlers" too, our theory was they were getting distressed from the heat and got scared. Scared chickens will either run or huddle, so with nowhere to run...

If that wasnt our last batch, it was the second to last. Swore I'd never do anything with chickens but eat them from then on. Stupid birds.
