I am brain dead today and can't figure out why I have no spark. I have 12+ volts at the coil with the key on, tried to check it in start, and it seem to fall of to around 5-6 volts. I don't see any spark at the points. What am I missing?

Brain dead myself today, but it sounds like a bad condenser.

Maybe a poor connection. Try running a jumper direct from battery to the coil & see if voltage stays up. Oh, and check that ground strap to the engine!

Brian, I would try filing the points wit emery cloth, and if that doesn't help replace the condenser.I had the same problem.I went to get points and cond. All they had in stock was cond.So i put it on and it fired right up.

Maybe it's one of those Kohler Diesel conversions like GM did in the 70's :laughingteeth: It rattles like a Diesel and it sure does smoke like a Diesel. :bigrofl: :bigrofl: :bigrofl: :bigrofl: :bigrofl: :bigrofl:

Well I guess you can name the tractor now Brian. Old Smokey seems like a good name.

That's about how bad my 165 smoked when I got it running. Shouldn't be any mosquitoes around for a bit. Glad it runs, looks like new rings are in order.
