I occasionally visit this monthly freight salvage auction-Stopped in today looking for some hydraulic parts and----P6210327.JPG

No matter the 460VAC 3 phase and the physically damaged parts, I have lots of compressor stuff at home and I like the Ingersoll twin pumps. At $175, I'm the proud PAPA of this 5HP beauty. The guys that passed on this are dummies :orangecool:

So I'm feeling pretty pumped up about how smart I am and I'll just go to aisle 3 and score the 2nd IR. While waiting for the auction to catch up I notice some guy looking at my jewel and he's "rocking" the pump pulley back and forth---My heart sank. Sure enough, I didn't check the pulley for damage, only whether it was a V or multi drive. You could feel--whatever was left-internally wiggling just free as a bird.

So at once I'm thinking, I'll sell this or my shop compressor and make out like a bandit--NOW, instead I have another project. :spanka: :spanka: P6210326.JPG P6210325_01.JPG P6210324_01.JPG P6210323.JPG P6210321.JPG P6210322_01.JPG

I think we've all had stars in our eyes when bidding. Don't beat yourself up, you're not alone.

I still don't think you did bad though. Just a tank alone would cost more then that plus it is a vertical tank which takes up less room. We have a horizontal tank and it takes up a lot of room. Hopefully the motor is good and if you don't have three phase you could sell the motor for a decent penny.

You're right George. Thus far the motor and motor starter are good-it will go to CL but finding someone with 460VAC/3PH may be tough. I had to take the motor and pump off to get the heavy sucker off the trailer. The pressure switch seems OK and maybe a very, very slim chance of saving the pump. We'll see by morning.

I have a couple of small pumps/compressors in various stages of repair. I can still duplex a secondary with my shop unit and have over 9SCFM to work with, so maybe things will work themselves out.

Update: Update
1) This bad boy was so &*^&^%$**@ heavy, I had to pull the pump and motor to get it off the trailer
2) The BAD Both rods busted, shaft seal gone and the crank is bent outbound of the bearing HOWEVER:
3) The Good: Rods are only $25 each plus a shaft seal-they are ON THE WAY. I can heat the 4 inches and bend
the shaft back true using a micrometer.
4) Its a 2340L series from Grainger today is north of $1500 :dancingbanana: :dancingbanana: :dancingbanana:
Due to the way the crank is mfd, I can heat and roll true using the sleeve in the vise. Both rods are connected rearward of the counterbalance casting. And the motor starter is usable-now to find someone with 460VAC 3PH who needs itP6210001.JPG P6210002.JPG P6210003.JPG

Just the extra air storage capacity would be a winner for me. The current 60 gallon tank is OK but another tank would be twice as OK.

Yes Bill, that big tank will help on quick stuff or painting, but for all-round performance, its all in the pump :mecry:

Lee, if anyone can revive that pump, I think it will be you. Best of luck with it!

i have a 10 foot trailer just about like yours. I noticed the crane on yours--definitely not one of the HF Cheapies... where did you get it and what will it lift?

Thanks,

US
