I don't know which manuals JDBrian has, but in case it doesn't include the Operator's Manual, I have it. It is titled "130, 160, 165, 175, 180, and 185 Lawn Tractors" OM-M72257, and is labeled "Dealer Service Shop Copy".

Based on a similar manual I just scanned in, the PDF for this one should be about 8 or 9M. If you're interested, let me know. It might be a few days before I can get it scanned.

Harlan

Dave: I sent you a Private Message with the Operator's Guide attached. Hopefully JDBrian can get you other manuals. Good Luck!

Hi, I am a new owner of an older 185. I am having trouble with the belts on the 46" deck.

I'd love a copy of any manuals anyone may have.

Thanks!

Thanks!

This is the manual I was looking for. I see there must be different versions, as the deck springs are different on mine.

My 46" deck has a tension release lever for the belt that goes from the pto to the deck. And the belt that goes around the spindle pulleys has an idler spring that goes to a welded hook on the fore part of the deck. This spring seems to be non-standard and way oversized. There is a piece of scrap steel between the spring and the hook. I suspect there should be a turn buckle there or at least a weaker spring with a longer travel.

Also, my lifting mechanism no longer works, and appears to be missing parts. One bar is broken and the lift assist spring is missing. And, the thumb button stays down.

It was mowing well with the deck riding on the scalp wheels, but the new kevlar spindle belt has stretched enough that it won't drive.

Today I intend to drill a new hole in the scrap steel spring mount to restore tension until I can get (or make) the correct parts.

Here is a link to some photos:

Again, thank you!

Brian,

I have sent several JD service manuals to members here by attaching them to a Private Message with no problems on either end.
