I agree with you Brian. Putting the points behind the flywheel is not the brightest idea, especially with them being a service item.Glad to hear you are making progress. It's a big job to get those flywheels off sometimes. I much prefer working on the Kohler K's with the points in their own compartment on the outside of the engine!
