Last week i was cutting down my neighbors tree for a case of beer. i had the massey 1655 and my big trailer, taking the logs back down my hill. ( steep hill and the massey crawls down her ). To make a long story short, my last trip of wood, the engine just went bang and stopped and would not start. after an hour, it started up but only one cylinder. Thinking bad spark plug, changed them out still the same. I took the breather off and tried to start and had fire shooting out of the carb. Then i noticed i was missing a screw that holds the metal breather to the carb and the other two screws where loose to. It's my fault i never used lock washers or 545 lock tight, live and learn and i hope the engine is ok.

Oh, no... Sounds like it sucked it into the intake. Hope no permanent damage done.

What happened is that the screw got sucked into the intake valve and jamed it open. I hope. You better hope that it didn't go all the way into the cylinder.

I had this same problem with an Onan in a Rounder skid steer. What I did was I got a lockong star washers, they were the style that has jagged teeth all the way around it like a saw. Regular lock washers still has the chance to loosen up under the vibrations of the engine.

Ouch!, that's a nasty surprise. I hope it's not too much work or $ to set it right!

all is good. I took off the left head and never hurt the gasket. i could see the bottom of the screw sticking out of the intake, but the head on the screw was to big to come right threw. So i got out my dremel and cut a piece off the head of the screw. it took a while, but the surgery was successful.
