Glad you got it going! What hydro does this have? Some just have that whine when working!

Love the video and hearing them run! Question when you cleaned your carb, how many turns did you apply to the needle? There are two adjustments and I'm still trying to get a ball park figure to get mine running better.

That HD is a beast! :)

For the HD12 it says 2 1/4.....that was about where it ended up....my carb is leaking due to old gaskets.....will get a rebuild kit next week...

Here is another video link for those interested.

Scott,
Nice score on the bush hog. That whining i'm hearing sounds like a normal hydro. They all have a different sound to them than the gear drives.

Thanks for the video Scott! She all sounds great to me! I see even the rear lift cylinder shaft is in great condition. You did good buddy! Looks like "new restorer" has the tank you need too! Now to get the plow on & turn some ground!

Daniel in a earlier post Kenny asked what type of hydro is in these bush hogs?.......since it has gears and hydraulics what is it called?
Is this a typical hydro system?

It's hydro to gear-motor. And the make of the hydro/gear unit is "Hydrogear" like many Wheel Horses have. I'm not sure who made the rear end....possibly Hydrogear also.

Is the wheel horse connection a possible source for these bush hogs if we need parts?

Actually, the early JD140 used the same exact pump/gear system, except the hydro control shaft is on the bottom instead of the top like the JB & HD. But the pumps can be swapped around to work either top or bottom. The 140's diff is the same too, except they have disc brakes, but just take them off & they'll fit the Bush Hog perfectly.
As to Wheel Horse units working, I can't say, as I've not seen many WH models to remember exactly. I do know the WH C120 & GT14 units won't interchange.

That reminds me....I noticed some leaking around the hydro control shaft base.....looks like where the taps (not bolts?) are that hold it to the unit......I am going to look it up later.....is this something you have seen before?? if yes.....how did you fix it??
As always, I am glad you are around to pull me through these repairs and purchases!

One or 2 of my JB's have a slight leak at that shaft, but not enough to deal with it yet. Likely a std seal we could find at a bearing supply.

For those interested in a comparison of the difference in sizes between the HD-12 and the D4-10.....here are two shots of the hoods to give you an idea.

I plan on taking a picture of both from the rear later today that I will post.....
