Hi guys, new to the site and wondering what I have. I just picked this 2 wheel beauty up and a yard sale. The old guy that had it said he used it to stir apple butter. I have been looking for one of these for a while now. He said it ran great, about 4 years ago was the last time he used it, lost the spark plug. He said, "gimme, 10 bucks". I gave him a 10 and ran to the van with it.

My best guess, after looking all over this site is: 1948, Bolens, Power Ho, Special (Clinton 2 hp motor and no hood). I say 1948 because of the belt tension set up. If you look you'll see there's no tensioner pulley. The drive pulley for the wheels rocks back, with a lever, and tightens the belt.

I would like to know what spark plug to use. As soon as I get a plug, I can see if he'll fire up.

Any help would would be greatly appreciated.

Eric

Eric, Welcome to the site. I'd think a common Champion CJ-8 plug would work in the engine. I would have to do some more checking before I'd agree with a Bolens though. Does it have any evidence of a tag back around the hitch area? If it does, that will give the model number. I'm not too up on these newer ones. Hopefully one of the Bolens guys will weigh in on this.

Great Lakes had the engine backwards from this one. The drive would be on the right side.

I think this one is a Springfield made by Quick MFG. Springfield, OH
Nice find and definately a good price!

I also think your tractor may be a Springfield, as it is not a Bolens.

Check out the Springfield tractor info at: http://gardentractor...tractor-manual/

I'd say Kris nailed it. There are pictures of one that has been repowered with a Briggs here: http://gardentractor...973-springfield Eric's appears to be original. I didn't think it looked like any Bolens I'd ever seen but then there has been a few come out of the woodwork lately that were new to me.

Thanks guys. The green paint with yellow wheels had me stuck on Bolens. After looking at the Springfield pics, that's definitely it.

Oh gosh guys, my head is going to swell.
I have mis-diagnosed a few myself but someone always comes to the rescue and straightens me out.
Thats just another example of why GTTalk is so great! We can all pitch in to help each other.
