This weekend has a lot of meaning to me, I lost my Dad over these holidays in 1970, just a few short months after returning from 'Nam. I miss him a lot and I hope I am making him proud. I know we all have folks that have passed. This is the time to remember and find joy in the time you spent with them. Out of a family of 5, I am the only remaining member. They are all just memories, passed long ago. Dad in 1970, brother Richard in 1974, Mom in 1979, Oldest brother Robert in 1988. So I have been alone for the last 20 some years. But I found GTTalk and now you folks are my family. Thank you one and all for being the wonderful folks you are.
Take the time this weekend to remember those who have passed. Remember them with joy and love. And be free with the love you pass to those close to you.
To all the members out there, I love you guys. You are all family to me!

Thanks so much for this topic Kenny. I am honoured to be counted amongst those who you would call Family. We don't celebrate memorial day up here in Canada but this is a good time to follow your advise and remember those who were special to us and are no longer with us!

Right back at you Kenny! That was some very good advise as well.
My Dad has lost several brothers over the last several years and they were all veterans. Some were from the WWII era and the youngest (my Dad) was in Viet Nam. My mother has lost all 3 of her brothers. Two of them were veterans also. My Uncle Frank (who was my favorite) was the last to pass about 8 years ago. He was a Korean war veteran and one of my favorite pictures of him was of him sitting on the front of a tank when he was there. All of these are dearly missed and the world would be darker place had they not been a part of it!
My brother has also been serving in the Army for over 28 years.
God bless all who have served and are serving this great country!

Hey Brother, we'll always be here. Memorial Day is a very special day and I think over the years some have forgotten the true meaning and it became just the start of summer vacation time. The country has done a complete turn around in the past few years. My eyes tear up when I hear of some of the things citizens are doing today to honor our veterans. You and I are lucky as we made it back but nothing will ever make us forget our friends and family who gave their lives that we may remain free. God bless you and all our troops and veterans.

Thanks Kenny. I don't know about you but the whole Vietnam thing still doesn't set well with me. The politicians and the reception afterwards just left a bad feeling in my gut. I am proud of all the people that served then and anytime. God bless them all.

Kenny, bless you and every Armed Forces member who has ever served their country.

As for the family, I love the extended family I have here. I'm lucky enough to still have my parents and many of my Aunts and Uncles. Due to fate, I was an only child, but have found many siblings here and cherish the interaction.

Happy Memorial Day to everyone at GTTalk!

Thank you Kenny for reminding us of this day, and your expressions of this special family. I know you are a special part to many of us here as well.

As for me, the eldest remaing as well, I still have a son and brother close by and we've grown very close since the loss of my daughter in childbirth 7 years ago and know well the value of every waking moment. This is a daily event for me.

For the VETS, I think its important to reflect on all who went before-in all of the wars from '76, 1812 WWI and II and so on. Each played a part in the lives we live today. Bless them all and thanks Kenny for the reminder.

Here's one more pic with the Flag standing tall. My daughter took this as I was giving Shane his first tractor ride. He even drove it some.

Funny Kenny, when I think about the core group of people here that give GT Talk the feel it has, your avatar is one of the first I think of. From a fellow vet, thanks for your service.
