Nice restoration. Thanks for the great pictures. It's interesting to see the frame and transmission. I didn't realize they used an angle drive on these. Pretty sturdy looking frame on it! Your pictures of the plastic dash repair are really nice to have as well.

Oh, you'll like doing the 5. Easy machine to work on, and fun to ride when done.
The part I liked about restoring the 5, is that it's just light enough that
it can be wrestled around and flipped over easily enough. I put it up on a 3 x 6
sheet of plywood on sawhorses. No bending over required.
Suggestion, start soaking the hubs on the rear axles with penetrating oil.
Mine where nasty to get off. I had to put the whole axle in a press, and that
was a real treat, on the left side, because the sprocket is in the way.
Looking forward to updates on that resto.

Wow, that turned out great. Thanks for the pics.

I have always wondered the same thing about the dash. Makes a guy wonder what horrible set of circumstances can cause that much damage and leave the rest of the tractor intact.

Ya i've got the next 3 months off of work.I was wondering if I should make a mold of one and see if I couldn't pop out a couple and see if they are any good!I've had five of these tractors and not a one of them have had a good dash.I'm just thinking out loud again.

Like your restore, I have a Snapper 1600 which is the same tractor but with a 16hp Kohler. I need to do a little dash repair too. As soon as I get this 18 wheeler load of widgets unloaded, counted and stacked in reversed numerical order I plan on giving her a new coat of paint.

Bonsoir,

merci.

Dom.

Good evening

Thanks for your story!

I also have a MF 1200 I want to redo to nine.

The engine is broken (broken rod), I tabled the engine Kohler K301 12Ch at-a-regulators rectifiers, in order to know if it is repairable.

I'm still waiting for the answer, in the meantime I would like to refurbish the chassis and all the other elements.

I have almost no budget, but I'm motivated for any redo myself.

Patient and handyman I do helpless not.

I have a question to ask you: motor output, a pulley is placed at the end of chassis behind the headlights, it must miss a play.

I think a r' sending angle so that the belt can arrive up to the polished of the cutting deck, I can't see what little look this coin?

Is the K301 engine is powerful enough for this type of tractor?

I have 4000 m² to mow.

Are you there your knowledge an engine that could replace the K301 with a slightly higher power?

I hope despite all that I'm inexpensively switch my engine.

Thanks for all your advice, I really need your help to rehabilitate this tractors.

Thank you.

DOM.

Dom.

Kohler K301= 12hp

Kohler K321= 14hp

Kohler K341= 16hp

Old Kohler                        Newer Kohler

Kohler K model  ---->       Kohler Magnum model

Difference between older (K model)  and newer (magnum model) is ignition system.

Magnum 12= 12hp

magnum 14= 14hp

Magnum 16= 16hp

All models listed should fit your 1200 with only minor differences. All are single cylinder engines.

12Hp is plenty for this tractor. Original engine should be repairable.

Hope the info helps.
